Download Amazon App For Windows Phone 8.1

Since it seems a whole new batch of these emails are going out we've bumped this story from a couple of days ago for anyone who might have missed it. Original story follows.

Amazon is emailing customers who have installed the Windows Phone app to be aware that this mobile solution will no longer be available from August 15. The online retail giant is asking everyone who relies on the Windows Phone app to begin using the mobile version of its website. This is quite the blow for those who were desperately holding out for an update to finally hit the store.

Our records indicate that you have previously installed the Amazon App for Windows Phone from the Microsoft App Store.

Download the app from the Store and run it. Navigate to Facebook.com, this should now work as normal, acting as a proper web-app where the earlier Windows Phone 8.1 app and Website on Microsoft’s.

We will be retiring the app you currently have on your device, meaning its contents will no longer be updated. You will still have access to the app until 15 August, 2016.

Should you already have the Amazon app downloaded and installed, you should be able to continue using the app once this deadline has come and gone. There's still no word yet as to whether or not Amazon will roll out a new UWP app. You can download the app from the Windows Store, but we'd actually recommend you simply use the mobile website.

We're back with another exciting episode of the Windows Central Podcast, and this week, Windows 10 20H1inches closer to reality with a new build in the Fast ring. Cortana mobile apps are going away for users in most markets, except for the United States. The release of Surface Earbuds has been delayed until Spring 2020, possibly to address their value compared to other Bluetooth earbuds?

Amazon has confirmed that it has pulled its long-running Windows Phone app from the search results of the Windows Store. The company does not appear to have any plans to launch a similar app for Windows 10.

The removal of the Amazon app from the search results was first noticed a few day ago. The German-based site WindowsUnited.de reports they have received an official response from Amazon. The (translated) statement said, in part:

The Shopping app is not available for Windows Phone for download. We recommend customers http://Amazon.de?tag=androcentr0a-21&ascsubtag=UUwpUdUnU40810 call via your mobile browser, where they have access to all the shopping features.

It is our first priority to offer our customers the best possible shopping experience, so our shopping app is no longer available for Windows Phone.

It is important to point out that people who have already downloaded the Windows Phone Amazon app won't be affected and it will still continue to work. Most importantly, the app is still available via a direct link to the Windows Store page. There are no indications that a universal Windows 10 app from Amazon is coming soon meaning this may be the end of offical support for some tmie.
